Vegan food gaining popularity

“Vegan food is not any more a niche in the market, but a trend. More and more people eat vegan food and even supermarkets offer vegan food”, said Felix Hnat, head of the Vegan Society Austria to wien.ORF.at.

Mr Hnat organises the first Vegan Ball in Vienna together with Badeschiff. Celebrity chef Christian Petz will create a three course menu out of purely plant ingredients. “We were lucky to win Mr Petz over as he is no vegetarian”, said Hnat.

Mr Petz will spoil the guests with artichokes filled with aubergine caviar in the gourmet restaurant Holy-Moly at Badeschiff. The main course will be Treviso Tardivo turnip and olives with thyme muffin and the dessert will be an exotic baked apple with mango and pineapple.

Felix Hnat had the idea to organise the ball: “Around five percent of Austrians eat vegetarian food, of which 10 percent are vegans. Vienna is the capital of vegetarianism”, he said.
